what you can't see from this spot is the the standing water that is now, as of this morning home to a mallard hen, 2 drakes and her five newly hatched ducklings. I was awakened this morning by her upset quacking, so I checked out the area and I found her, and a red-tailed hawk harassing her for a meal. It happened again tonight, but we ended up scaring the red-tail away. The red-tail has a nest just east of this photo. My youngest stated that is why red-tails are mean. I told her they weren't mean, they are just hungry and she has to feed her young.
